Material connections

A material connection is anything of value from a brand: a free or discounted product, payment, a gift, an ambassador deal, or an affiliate commission. If a connection exists, the review says so in the review itself, where a reader will see it.

Free products

Free products never buy a positive review. A product Lauren did not pay for is held to the same standard as one she bought. The review may be positive, mixed, or negative. She does not promise a favorable opinion in exchange for keeping a product.

Paid work is labeled as a paid partnership. Payment does not decide the opinion.

Every affiliate link is disclosed. If a link can earn a commission, the page says so before those links. A commission does not buy a positive review.

What a brand may change

A brand may fact-check accuracy: specifications, how a feature works, and safety information.

A brand may not change opinions, conclusions, or the tone of a review. A brand may not require a positive review as a condition of payment, of keeping a product, or of an ongoing partnership.

Honest reviews

Reviews describe Lauren’s own experience, including Deaf and hard-of-hearing access. She does not buy reviews, sell reviews, post reviews of products she has not used, or present someone else’s experience as her own.

She does not suppress a lawful review because of its rating, and she does not threaten someone over a review. 16 CFR Part 465 prohibits fake reviews, buying positive or negative reviews, insider reviews and testimonials without disclosure, company-controlled review sites presented as independent, certain kinds of review suppression, and buying fake indicators of social media influence. itsjustlaka does not do those things.

Labels

These marks are used when they apply. A review can carry more than one. The graphics are in the brand folder for Lauren to place on videos and images.

Video

When a review includes video, the video has captions. A written transcript is on the page. An ASL inset is included when the piece is signed. Every video block on this site has a transcript area and a note stating the caption and ASL-inset status.

AI use

AI tools help with drafting, editing, captions, transcripts, and scheduling. Opinions, testing, and on-camera content stay Lauren’s. The short version is on the AI use page.
